Woodland Festival

Did you know there was once a tree growing out of the furnace? Not many do! And since this site has such a close connection with nature, with our woodland at the heart of the national forest, what better way to celebrate than with a festival dedicated to the woodland and the incredible local crafters we’re surrounded by.

We will be asking for donations as always, and hope to see plenty of your lovely faces!

Dog Festival

With an estimated 13 million dogs living in homes in the UK, many of our wonderful visitors have a dog in their family. So we decided that, this year, we would shine a spotlight on them with a day dedicated to dogs! Over the course of the day, you and your furry friend will be able to enter a fun dog show, have a go at an agility course, check your chip, and shop til you drop for treats, toys, accessories and pet related gifts. What more could you ask for on a Sunday in June? Never mind food, a bar, and crafts for the kids as well.

There will be a small fee for entry into the dog show, and we will be asking for donations for parking and some activities.

We can’t wait to see you all!

Please note, we do ask that all visitors have the appropriate insurance in place, as we can not take liability for any actions taken by a visiting pet.

Artisan Fair Day 3

Up to 60 artisan craft stalls, over a dozen food stalls (both undercover in a marquee), hot food vendors, children’s entertainment, live music, the museum open, and the boat running. This 3-day event will see much-loved crafters returning alongside new favourites, to our first-ever, undercover, fair.

Come rain or shine, these brilliant crafters will be here selling their brilliant creations, undercover, in the dry. There’s plenty for the whole family to do whilst here, not just shopping, but fairground rides, boat trips, the museum, and exploring our 36-acre site.

There will be a £1 donation required for parking on entry but entry to the 2 marquees is free! That’s cheaper than going into town to the market, once you’ve paid for parking for a few hours.

A Midsummer Night's Dream - The Handlebards

A Midsummer Night's Dream - The Handlebards

Join the massively popular HandleBards as they make a welcomed return to Moira Furnace Museum for a hilarious, high-octane production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Four young lovers find themselves lost in a magical forest, where the Fairy King and Queen are fighting for the possession of a changeling boy. A group of amateur actors head to the same forest to rehearse for a play. Humans and fairies collide and hilarity ensues.

Their last two visits have proved to be a total knock-out with our audiences howling with laughter (which is no mean feat for Macbeth!) and we cannot wait to see what they have done with this fantastical Shakespearian classic.

“Gloriously eccentric and very, very funny” ★★★★ The Stage

This is an outdoor production, so please bring your own chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather!

Notes on Performance
– Doors open at 6pm, so bring a picnic and come and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
– Chairs, picnics, blankets and any other low level accessories are welcome.
– In case of rain, please don’t bring umbrellas as they block sight-lines for other audience members. Ponchos and raincoats are just as fetching, so please wear these instead.

Important Ticket Conditions – Please Read
– One ‘Under 10’ ticket is available free of charge with each paid ticket. Just add the Under 10 tickets to your cart.
– Our free ‘Under 10’ ticket offer is only available online and in-advance.
– Tickets will also be available to purchase on the day at the venue for £20 each.
– You can bring your tickets digitally, on a phone or tablet, so save the trees and please don’t print them.

American independence War Weekend

Over the American independence weekend, we look at the links our site has to the wars of independence by welcoming reenactors from both the British and American sides of the war. Francis Rawdon Hastings, the Earl of Moira, who founded this area and build the furnace, fought for the British in these wars, giving us a direct link to them.
We cannot promise the peace will be kept over the whole weekend with both sides camping on-site, skirmishes may take place and we just don't know who will come out on top, the British or the Americans. You will have to be down here to find out!
Entrance is free with charges still applied for the museum and boat rides.
