Awards Ceremonies and Winter Maintenance

With the season now fading into memory, we here at the furnace are busy looking forward to next year. The volunteers are working harder than ever to keep the site and the museum in tip top condition, ready for opening after the museum has hibernated over the long cold winter.

Although the nights have drawn in and the temperature has dropped, we have had some great news that has got us all very excited. Our wonderful team of volunteers have been shortlisted for ‘Best Team’ at the Leicestershire Tourism Awards on the 29th November.

We are all very excited! Everyone is brushing off their best frocks and suits (working so hard here, the volunteers rarely get a chance to dress up in their posh clothes) and are looking forward a night of great food and entertainment. Even if we don’t win, it doesn’t matter as they are all winners in our eyes. We are so lucky to have such a dedicated, hard working team of volunteers. We are up against a plethora of very good tourism sites around the county but fingers crossed! You can see more details here:

Remember, the site is open throughout the year but some advanced notice that we will be getting the boardwalk through the woods replaced in the not too distant future which will mean the woodland access will be affected from the car park. There are plans for various other bits of work so we advise you just be vigilant when on site.

We will be looking to open again around the start of April with a special, one off open event in March. We are currently reviewing the days we open and how long we stay open as well as the price and what we can offer within that. More news to follow when things have been confirmed.

Thank you again for your continued support. We wouldn’t be the site we are without such a supportive community as you.
