About us

We are one of North West Leicestershire’s hidden gems, comprising a Museum of iron making and social history, a vintage 100+-year-old narrowboat for trips along the canal, fishing along its banks, woodlands for exploring, and a great place for a picnic, and all with free parking.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcomed around the museum and on the boat.

We hold events throughout the year, both free entry and paid, so there is something for everyone. Take a look and see…

The Moira Furnace Museum Trust is a charitable company limited by guarantee, first incorporated on 6 April 1989. Its purpose, as a charity is:

1. to establish and maintain a museum for the benefit of the public relating to the Moira Furnace building and the workings and practices of the iron, coal mining, pottery, railway, canal, and other associated industries

2. to preserve and conserve the flora and fauna of the Moira Furnace site for the benefit and education of the public.

Moira Furnace Museum Trust benefits from financial and administrative support from members and officers at North West Leicestershire District Council.

The Trust also benefits enormously from the contribution of volunteers who add to the continued success and development of the site and its heritage assets.

The Trust also recognizes and values the continued support of the community, other local authorities and partners in all its endeavours to preserve important heritage and the environment whilst providing a quality visitor attraction for all.
